Week 8 2013 NFL Predictions

24 Oct

Week 8

October 24th – Thursday Night Game

Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers 8:25 PM

Andrew – Carolina Panthers. I sure do hate some of these Thursday night match ups.

Greg – Carolina. It’s like the NFL got together, and plotted the worst possible matchups of the year, and made them all on TNF. Which in a way is great, because I can go about my life as if there is no TNF — which there shouldn’t be.

Genesis  – Panthers. In this battle of mediocre teams, who wants it less?!

October 27th – Early Sunday Games (1:00 TIME ET)

Dallas Cowboys at Detroit Lions 1:00 PM

Andrew – Detroit Lions. These teams are close enough in skill sets to make this a pretty even contest, so I’m going with the home team here, while knowing full well the Cowboys could win.

Greg – Detroit. I think this game will be tight, but I just can’t go with the banged up Cowboys defense. Not to mention that Demarco Murray is still struggling to come back. If he plays, the Cowboys have a better chance, but Stafford is playing out of his mind lately.

Genesis – Cowboys. I hate to say it, but despite the hail mary bombs to Calvin Johnson, there really isn’t much else for the Lions. The Lions have Suh, who can really change the game if he decides to literally kill someone on the field, but the rest of the Lions defense is pretty up and down. No INTs for Romo this week will lead to a Cowboys win. I hate you.

Cleveland Browns at Kansas City Chiefs 1:00 PM

Andrew – Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs schedule has really played into their undefeated season thus far, and I imagine will give them the confidence to take down an otherwise superior team later in the season. Fortunately for the Chiefs, that test is not today.

Greg – Kansas City. Who knew that the Chiefs would be undefeated this late into the season? Pretty crazy. Chiefs win this one easy.

Genesis – Browns. Oh man, can’t believe I’m doing this. The Chiefs struggled-ish against the Texans last week and J Campb as their QB should give the Browns a fighting chance. Oh God, this pick is so dumb.

Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots 1:00 PM

Andrew – New England Patriots. Back to back division loses would be unacceptable.

Greg – New England. This team is just not good. Luckily they get Talib back this week, and the Dolphins have zero wideouts — should be an easy win for the Pats, but this is the 2013 Pats, so it will be tight.

Genesis – Pats. I think this game will be a lot closer than people think, but expect Tommy Salami to throw more to Gronk and get the win. Yay.

Buffalo Bills at New Orleans Saints 1:00 PM

Andrew – New Orleans Saints. Don’t imagine this to be much of an issue for a saints team that is playing pretty well on both sides of the ball.

Greg – New Orleans. The Saints are coming off a bye (and that last second loss to the Pats) — I think they come out guns blazing ready to put this one out of hand early. Maybe if this game was in Buffalo, the Bills would have a chance, but in the Superdome, sorry guys.

Genesis – Saints. Rested and ready to go, the Saints will continue where they left off – winning against teams they should be beating.

New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles 1:00 PM

Andrew – Philadelphia Eagles. Why do I keep picking the Giants?! Eagles get their first home win in forever.

Greg – Philadelphia. The Eagles get Vick back this week, which is very lucky considering Foles is out hurt now too. Can someone be a consistent starter here?! Anyways, the Giants played a horrible team last week with a backup backup backup QB in Freeman. Now they get the high powered Eagles offense + Eli will most certainly turn the ball over.

Genesis – Eagles. Philly was fighting for first place last week while the Giants were fighting for their first win (Let’s pause for a minute to appreciate that super ESPN lead into this pick). That Giants “game” against the Vikings was atrocious. So if that team shows up against the Eagles, Philly will go off regardless of the health of their QB.

San Francisco 49ers at Jacksonville Jaguars 1:00 PM

Andrew – San Francisco 49ers. I’d like to pick the Jaguars one game this year, just because you know they’re going to get it, but I would be very very very surprised if they won this game (and disappointed in the 49ers).

Greg – San Francisco. I mean, this could possibly be a trap game. I see this going the way the Broncos game went. The Jags will stay in it early and then slowly…drift….away….to the locker room.

Genesis – 49ers. Guess which one is Jacksonville.

October 27th – Thursday Afternoon Games (4:00 TIME ET)

Pittsburgh Steelers at Oakland Raiders 4:00 PM

Andrew – Pittsburgh Steelers. They’re not back to the team that the Steelers fans are used to, but they should be back enough to beat the Raiders.

Greg – Pittsburgh. They are slowly starting to come back into their own as a team, led by their defense mainly. I anticipate a similar game to the Steelers past two, close, and low scoring. Steelers edge the Raiders by 5.

Genesis – Steelers. Steelers should be able to extend their win streak this week. Offense will start to work better this week and improve upon their terribleness from the first couple of weeks.

New York Jets at Cincinnati Bengals      4:05 PM

Andrew – Cincinnati. Of course I call out AJ Green and Andy Dalton and then they go and have the best games of their season. If the Bengals don’t close the door on the Jets early this could actually be interesting.

Greg – Cincinnati. After a huge win for the Jets last week, they get the Bengals who have been playing great ball lately. Dalton has finally figured out how to throw the ball again, and their defense has been doing just enough to get by. Bengals win this one by 10.

Genesis – Jets. It’s going to end in a surprising way – the way all of their wins have come this year.

Washington Redskins at Denver Broncos 4:25 PM

Andrew – Denver. Is RG3 back? Certainly looks like it, but he won’t be able to cover up all the woes on defense and special teams in this game.

Greg – Denver. This one has the potential to be a laugher by half, or a shockingly close game. I think it’s the laugher by half. Sure the Redskins have shown they can move the ball on offense again, but against a Denver defense getting their starters back, this could get ugly.

Genesis – Redskins. YOLO.

Atlanta Falcons at Arizona Cardinals     4:25 PM

Andrew –  Atlanta. Don’t have a lot of faith in the Cardinals, but if this turns into the slop mess it has the potential to be then it’s anyone’a game.

Greg – Atlanta. I think the Falcons are better than their record says. I look for them to open things up a bit this game.

Genesis – Cardinals. FIGHT OF THE BIRDS. I still stick with my guns and say that if they make Matt Ryan throw on the run or pressured, the Falcons’ offense will flutter. Honey Badger time?

Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings 8:30 PM

Andrew – Green Bay Packers. I feel for the Vikings a bit in their mess of a quarterback situation.

Greg – Green Bay. I don’t really know what to expect from the Vikings — except an inept quarterback no matter who it is. Maybe hand the ball off to AP more than 13 times this game guys?

Genesis – Green Bay. Vikings are bad. So…so..bad….

Seattle Seahawks at St. Louis Rams 8:30 PM

Andrew – Seattle. I imagine the Rams defense will do their best to keep St. Louis in it…..for the first half… But if the Seahawks dominate the time of possession, this could get ugly.

Greg – Seattle. Sam Bradford is out for the year, that is tough. Good luck to the backup against this defense.

Genesis – Seattle. Oof, goodybe Sammy B. Seattle’s going to destroy the Rams and this game won’t be worth watching.

•Bye: Chicago Bears, Tennessee Titans, Indianapolis Colts, San Diego Chargers, Baltimore Ravens, Houston Texans bye
