Top 25 Christmas Movies of All Time

15 Dec

I’m sure you can feel it in the air! Ok maybe not, but either way, I’m sure you are getting excited for December 25, Christmas Day! Christmas is held extremely high in my family’s house, and with that comes a love for Christmas movies. So compiled here is top 25 Christmas movies (with clip or trailer attached!)

25 – Nightmare before Christmas

Never been a big fan, but the songs are pretty catchy.

24 – The Year Without a Santa Claus

This 1974 classic might have a couple creepy looking characters, but it is sure to entertain and have your toe tapping to these songs.

23 – Jack Frost

A great movie to sit around on a Sunday afternoon.

More after the jump!

22 – Mickey Mouse: Pluto’s Christmas Tree

This one is a classic. It first brought the Disney characters into my life and will always remind me of Christmas.

21 – Christmas Carol (Alastair Sim – 1951)

Basically the original Christmas Carol film with a really creepy old man playing Scrooge perfectly.

20 – Home Alone 2

Not as good as the first, but still a hit, using the exact same tactics as the first.

19 – Charlie Brown Christmas

I’m not the biggest fan of Charlie Brown, but for some reason this short movie reminds you of your childhood

18 – Holiday Inn

Bing Crosby sings in this – if he can’t get you in the Christmas spirit, no one can!

17 – Joyeux Noel

Based on the true story from WWI of opposing sides celebrating Christmas together in “no mans land” then continuing to fight the next day.

16 – The Polar Express

If you weren’t in the mood for hot chocolate, you sure are now.

15 – Frosty the Snowman

Frosty is pretty cute, and forever engrained in our memory.

14 – Scrooged

Bill Murray, enough said.

13 – Elf

Will Ferrell playing an Elf trying to find his way in NYC to his real family AND SAVE CHRISTMAS!

12 – Miracle on 34th Street

It makes you believe in Santa!

11 – Grinch (Jim Carrey)

As much as I tried to dislike this movie, it was extremely entertaining, Carrey does a great job.

10 – It’s a Wonderful Life

I really don’t like this movie at all, but it appears lots of other people do (as it plays every year)

9 – A Christmas Story

This will play non-stop on Christmas day, and I still haven’t figured out what all the fuss is about, needless to say, a lot of people love this film.

8 – Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer

Burl Ives narrating the most famous reindeer of them all.

7 – Love, Actually

Those Brits sure can make a great Christmas love story!

6 – The Santa Clause

Still a classic, quite possibly Tim Allen’s best performance, ever.

5 – Jingle All the Way

Arnold and Sinbad face off for Turbo-Man. This movie is hilarious, and Phil Hartman is maybe the best character.

4 – National Lampoons Christmas Vacation

This movie will never get old…a little big, a lotta sap.

3 – Muppet Christmas Carol

No muppet movie can make me laugh, except for this one. Gonzo takes the reigns as Charles Dickens, hilarity ensues (with a good message!) It could have been number one, but the song “The Love is Gone” was awful (Fast forward past it every year).

2 – White Christmas

It’s not Christmas until you watch this movie and the final scene is still amazing.

1 – Home Alone

There is no other movie that can get you into the Christmas spirit or bring back memories of your childhood than Home Alone. Even the theme puts a smile on your face! Every quote in this movie is memorable, even the screams. I’ve still always wanted to sled down my stairs out the front door.

See something not on the list? Leave it in the comments! And be sure to look out for Kibitzers Top 25 Christmas Songs!

Ok, despite some horrible overrating here (Jack Frost was like the worst movie of ANY holiday season and Santa Clause in the top 10? you obviously didn’t see “Christmas With The Kranks”) – your top 5 are solid. Fun Fact: I was at the Premiere of Jingle All The Way and the Governator had to stand on a box next to Phil Hartman and Sinbad since he is so short. Yeah, I’m kind of a big deal.

Christmas story is #9???? The Santa Clause and Jingle all the Way suck! RECOUNT!

The Holiday Inn clip looks a little racist

Wow. Any other non-Blackface clips, Greg?

Updated clip for you guys (didn’t actually watch all of the first one, haha)

Agree with jingle all the way totally! For violent, christmasy themed movies, i think gremlins could have made it on here for sure, i watched that last christmas!

I would just like to say that “The Love is Gone” song in the Muppet Christmas Carol was taken out of the DVD widescreen version. Therefore, it should rightly take it’s spot at number one.

I just bought a christmas movie pack that had Jingle all the way, Home Alone, A Christmas Carol, and Miracle on 34th ST (Sucks, but the other 3 are awesome). Top 5 is pretty solid, but I’m disappointed to see Die Hard and Die Hard 2 are not featured at all. Seriously???

Jack Frost is a lot of fun…great choice as it doesn’t often get spoken about in top Christmas lists.

I can’t argue with number one though – Home Alone is one of my personal favourites. Other faves include Scrooged, Die Hard, Gremlins and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

Yeah I haven’t seen Jack Frost in a while, but I remember it being decent. Home Alone will never be topped in my view though. Too many memories growing up with it!
