Week 5: NFL Predictions!

7 Oct
Well Andrew had a pretty amazing week last week everyone, don’t believe us — LOOK IT UP YOURSELF!! WE HAVE JOBS!!!
Week 5Bye: Cleveland, Dallas, St. Louis, Miami, Washington, Baltimore

Sunday October 9, 1:00 PM Games

Tennessee Titans at Pittsburgh Steelers

Andrew – Tennessee. Bit of a gamble I know, but the Steelers are extremely banged up right now. I know that Big Ben will be playing, but if the Titans are able to get him out of the pocket, I mean where is he going to go with his foot issues. I’m also hoping that Matt Hasselbeck continues to his progress in the offense. It could be a totally different team with a legit quarterback back there again.

Greg – Pittsburgh. This is one down year for the Steelers, however, I still think they have enough to get through the Titans who have been extremely inconsistent. I am also still banking on CJ breaking out this week, I said week 5 originally — we’ll see.

Seattle Seahawks at New York Giants

Andrew – New York. The Seahawks are doing well with Sydney Rice coming back into the fold, but on the road against a tough Giants’ defensive line, I don’t know if I can see them putting up the numbers to take down the Giants.

Greg – New York. I am weary of this game still, but for this week, it is my lock pick. The Giants have shown they can actually play the game when Eli isn’t a moron. And now that Osi is back, their defense gets stronger. I just do not see the Seahawks traveling cross country and beating the Giants at home.

Cincinnati Bengals at Jacksonville Jaguars

Andrew – Cincinnati. First, how freaking easy is Cincinnati’s schedule!? Secondly, Cincinnati’s defense is crushing the run, which will make the Jaguars extremely one dimensional. Blaine Gabbert will have a tough time in this game even at home.

Greg – Jacksonville. It’s not very often that I have absolutely no interest in a game on Sunday, but this is one of them. I feel that the disparity between the good teams and the bad teams is growing further apart more and more each year. But anyways, Jaguars win.

MORE PICKS AFTER THE JUMP HATERS!
New Orleans Saints at Carolina Panthers

Andrew – New Orleans. I don’t know if the Saints D will slow down Cam Newton, since other, better defenses couldn’t, but I DO know that the Saints offense will pick apart the injury plagued Panthers defense.

Greg – New Orleans. The Saints score a lot of points, but now so do the Panthers too apparently? Cam Newton is making this whole rookie quarterback thing look pretty easy. I think the Panthers will have a good show in the first half, but then the Saints will work themselves into a comfortable lead by the 4th quarter.

Oakland Raiders at Houston Texans

Andrew – Houston. Don’t be fooled by the low score of the Texans/Steelers game, the Texans dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Despite losing their star receiver Andre Johnson, I still think the Texans are the stronger team here.

Greg – Houston Texans. This is the big test for the Raiders. A road game against another good team, and to stay above .500. I see this game going to the wire with some last seconds heroics from someone. Hopefully Andre Johnson plays…

Philadelphia Eagles at Buffalo Bills

Andrew – Buffalo. That would be sweet wouldn’t it? The Eagles can’t tackle in the secondary, and Fitzmagic will be back at it! The Eagles are oddly crumbling, and can not stop the run, so enjoy Fred Jackson running all over their defense. The only silver lining here is that the Bills have a hard time getting after the quarterback, so Vick should be able to stay on healthy throughout the game.

Greg – Philadelphia Eagles. The dream team is in shambles here! But there is no way Andy Reid’s team can lose 4 in a row right? Have they ever done that in his tenure? Either way, they are still playing the Bills, who I still think are not good. Besides some crazy turn of events, they are a 1-3 team. With that being said, the game is in Buffalo and those fans will be going BONKERS. Eagles win by two scores.

Kansas City Chiefs at Indianapolis Colts

Andrew – Kansas City. Wow just battle of the awful. I don’t know what is going to happen to with this game, but I’m pretty sure Collins is still out with a “concussion” (suspecting maybe, just benching…) and Painter will be getting the start again. This could end up being the deciding game for who gets the number one over all pick, but in the mean time look for that Cassel to Dwayne Bowe connection.

Greg – Indianapolis Colts. I mean, they have to win eventually right? Won’t get much easier after this…

Arizona Cardinals at Minnesota Vikings

Andrew – Arizona. You can do it Donovan McNabb! No…. technically you can’t, and probably won’t but Adrian Peterson can and will. But if it comes to a shoot out, the Cardinals will take advantage of the Vikings’ softer secondary (softer than their strong run defense). All I have to say is after watching this game, people will give even more credit to the Andy Reid and the Eagles organization for shipping out both of these quarterbacks for large gains.

Greg – Minnesota Vikings. Same thing here, this team has been close to winning in their games and just can’t seem to get over the hump. I’m sure Vikings fans are already calling for McNabb’s head, but he’ll play strong this week (cough cough, hand the ball to AP, cough cough).

Late Afternoon Games

Tampa Bay Buccaneers at San Francisco 49ers

Andrew – San Francisco. Gosh, this is a randomly good and close game. Good for both organizations for getting back on track. I think San Francisco takes this one at home, but if the location was switched, then Tampa Bay definitely wins.

Greg – San Francisco. This team is starting to prove some people wrong — although don’t they do this every year and then collapse late in the season crushing all their fans dreams? Well either way, Tampa has looked a bit sporadic at actually playing good football, so I’ll go with the home team 49ers.

New York Jets at New England Patriots

Andrew – New England. Not too confident about this pick to be honest. I mean the Jets built their whole team to play the Patriots and turns out the Jets stack up well. I’m just going to give it to the Patriots based on home field advantage, but if they get beat up bad, look for a rough game next week before the limping into the bye. That’s the effect the Jets can have on the Patriots.

Greg – New England. Since their last playoff meeting, the Jets have taken a step back not only defensively, but offensively too. Their ‘ground and pound’ game isn’t there, and their defense has looked sloppy. But don’t worry Jets fans, the Jets get up for this game and the Pats lack of defense will keep this game close!

San Diego Chargers at Denver Broncos

Andrew – Chargers. I don’t think that the Chargers are all that good, but I don’t know how the Broncos can win this game. Their defense just can’t stop the pass, and going against Vincent Jackson and the historically high powered San Diego offense will be a tough test. On the flip side, the fans have no faith in Kyle Orton, and going against a tough San Diego defense….ugh it won’t be pretty.

Greg – San Diego. Neither of these teams are very good, however the Chargers have a run of a few games here that could lead them to being around 7-1 midseason. We’ll see if that actually happens, but the Broncos just have a lot to still figure out it seems, might start with a Brady Quinn sighting??

Sunday Night Football

Green Bay Packers at Atlanta Falcons 8:20 PM

Andrew – Green Bay. I originally picked the Falcons, because I feel like this is a game they COULD win, but then I started to say that the Packers are undefeated and I know that the Falcons were stomped by Green Bay in the playoffs and the Falcons also haven’t played up to the big games when they have needed. Atlanta needs this win, but Green Bay is just too good now.

Greg – Atlanta Falcons. This one could go either way and should make for an entertaining game. It’s a matter of if the Falcons can slow down Rodgers and/or keep up with their offense. I think the Falcons defense will come through and the Falcons will win by 10.

Monday Night Football

Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions 8:30 PM

Andrew – Detroit Lions. I have a really hard time believing that the Lions are about to be 5-0… I mean really!? The Lions!? But, Jay Cutler is just a huge liability with the ball, and if the Lions shut down the run and put up enough points, then Cutler will forcing unnecessary passes alllll game, and it could get ugly.

Greg – Detroit Lions. Wow they are on Monday Night Football now?!? America’s team here. The Lions could win this game and basically exceed their wins from the 2000’s (yeah sure that sounds true). I think the Bears will show up, but without an offensive line…again. Poor Cutler
