Thirsty Thursdays: Special St. Patrick’s Day Edition

17 Mar

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope you’re wearing green today, or else a leprechaun will steal your toothbrush. I clearly don’t know anything about Irish folklore, but I do know a thing or two about drinks. Anyone can make “Green Beer”. So why not try something else? Here are a couple of unique drinks to make while you’re singing your Irish Drinking Songs on St. Patty’s Day.

Emerald Isle Cocktail

1 oz Gin
1 tsp Green Crème de Menthe
2 Dashes bitters

  1. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled
    with ice cubes
  2. Shake well
  3. Strain into a chilled
    cocktail glass

Notes on a Napkin

A dash or two of bitters does help the drink considerably. Mint bitters is an equally nice compliment. This will give The Emerald Isle a minty gin cocktail taste that’s perfect for St. Patrick’s Day.

More drinks after the jump!

Bagpiper’s Melody

1 oz Whiskey
1 ounce Green Crème de Menthe
Old-Fashioned glass

  1. Add ice to old-fashioned glass
  2. Pour Green Crème de Menthe
  3. Add Whiskey
  4. Stir well

Notes on a Napkin

This drink is great for whiskey lovers. The important part is to find a balance between the Whiskey and the Crème de Menthe. You can also pour the drink into shot glasses for shots of this drink.

Caruso Cocktail

1 oz gin
1 oz dry vermouth
A dash of green crème de menthe
Sunglasses (optional)

  1. Pour ingredients into a mixing glass filled with ice
  2. Stir well
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass
  4. (optional) Say a one-liner, put sunglasses on drink, and yell “YEAH”

Notes on a Napkin

This Martini is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day as well as a dessert drink. You can try a Caruso Blaco by substituting the green crème de menthe with a white crème de menthe. This is a very similar drink to the Emerald Isle cocktail.

Irish Gold

2 parts Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey
2 parts Ginger Ale
1/2 part Peach Schnapps
Splash of Orange Juice
Lime wheel for garnish (optional)

  1. Fill a tall glass with ice
  2. Add whiskey, schnapps, and juice
  3. Top with ginger ale
  4. (optional) Garnish with a lime wheel

Notes on a Napkin

This is a different twist to a “traditional” St. Patrick’s Day, focusing on the “gold” aspect of the day. The drink sports are fruity Irish whiskey drink that is refreshing on St. Patrick’s Day, or even on a Summer day.
