Monday Music Madness: Mixtape Vol. 2

14 Mar

I felt bad for not posting for a while, so here’s a bunch of songs you might’ve missed!

Till the World Ends – Britney Spears

To be honest, I was not a huge fan of “Hold It Against Me”.” It was ok when it first came out, then after a while, it just got old. Britney Spears’ new song, however, is a song I don’t mind listening to. “Till the World Ends” is not a song about the end of the world; in fact, there’s nothing apocalyptic about it. In fact, it almost sounds like something from a Brazilian carnival; or as someone put it, a soccer match — a very gay soccer match. The anthem-y sound of this song is what makes it catchy. “Woooaaaaaaooohhhh” hasn’t been this catchy since “Zombie Nation”. Chances are you’ve heard this song before, but there’s no reason why we can’t make sure we have it just in case you didn’t. So check out “Till the World Ends”, and if you’re wondering, yes, this song is better than Lady Gaga’s song:

Throw It Back – Audio Push

It sucks that there’s a big chance there won’t be a 2011 NFL season. It’s hard to think about what we’d we do without football distracting us for a couple of hours on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Audio Push, or “The Push,” has managed to take all of that and make a song that sounds like it’s supposed to be about football, but is actually about big ‘ol butts. Sneaky, sneaky. They’ve already provided me with one of my favorite songs (and dance moves) “Teach Me How to Jerk” and it seems like they’ve given me another song to party to. There’s a certain flow to their raps and a distinct Cali-inspired sound to their beats that makes me like them. So try to do the reject and check out “Throw It Back”:

Like this song? Their interestingly titled freshman album, Broadies Over Woadies, will be dropping soon-ish.

Sure Thing – Miguel

This song has been out for a while, but it was introduced to me when talking about inappropriate wedding songs. This song by Miguel is very shmexy, to say the least. Featured on one of Usher‘s songs in his album, Miguel is trying to find some more mainstream success, and he might have a chance with this song. It’s not a dance song, nor does it sound like any of the new R&B songs that’s comes out recently. It’s a nice little nod to how R&B used to be; soft sung lyrics over a smooth track. Check out “Sure Thing” below:

Like this song? Be on the lookout for Miguel’s upcoming second album, State of the Art, dropping something in 2011.

Hello (feat. Martina Sorbara) – Martin Solveig

I heard this song a while back and I’ve been meaning to post it. Much like Edward Maya, this European (more specifically French) DJ and producer has found some success here in the states with this catchy dance track. It’s already reached number 1 in many different European countries and it’s already making it’s rounds through the airwaves here in the States. Martin Solveig provides the beats while Martina Sorbara, from the band Dragonette, provides the vocals. This song is undoubtedly catchy, and with the recent craze in dance/house music, I can see this song getting a lot of airplay on the radio and clubs. Check out “Hello”:

Lay It Down – Lloyd

Speaking of inappropriate wedding songs, this song could be in the running as well. Lloyd has been out for a while, dropping R&B tracks here and there but never really finding super mainstream success. It’s a shame too because he does make/provide his voice to catchy songs. “Bedrock“, anybody? This new song isn’t really all that new, but I think it’s better than his current single, “Cupid”. Much like Miguel’s “Sure Thing,” this song is super shmexy. It makes me want to light up a cigarette, and I don’t even smoke. I can see this song being a big hit on the radio. Will it make it on a Top 40 radio station? I don’t know – but I sure hope so. Check out “Lay It Down” below:

Like this song? Lookout for Lloyd’s new album, King of Hearts, dropping sometime soon.

Roll Up – Wiz Khalifa

You know, for someone that’s completely tatted up, Wiz Khalifa sure doesn’t come off as a hardcore gangster. I’m not saying that that’s the persona he’s showcasing, but his hardcore Steelers anthem “Black and Yellow” and his imagine sure made me feel like he wasn’t going to be making poppy hip-hop songs. “Roll Up” is his new single that’s, according to one YouTube’r, ‘Great to light a blunt to.’ Thank you, sir. But if you’re not into smoking doobies, this song can also be a great cruising song. It’s got a catchy track backing the Wizard of Oz’s rhymes. This song actually reminds of Southern California a lot and I don’t know why. So Taylor Swift Gang or die and check out “Roll Up”:

Like this song? Check out Wiz’s upcoming album, Rolling Papers, dropping March 29th.
