Iron Man 2: Come On Cameos

4 May

Iron Man 2 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated movies coming out this year. But, with the movie coming out this Friday, May 7, one question still remains, which Marvel character will make a cameo appearance?

In the first Iron Man, we were introduced to Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson. Ever since then, Marvel has stressed that they will put in a cameo of a Marvel character in each movie to promote the fact that the Marvel Universe is connected; a.k.a, they’re introducing each character associated with The Avengers before its release in 2012. So to me, they’ll be focusing more on introducing the Avengers and making sure that story arc works by using these other films. So let’s go and explore the possibilities:

The Incredible Hulk

In The Incredible Hulk, Tony Stark makes an appearance and mockingly asking General Ross about the “unusual problem” he had. He then also mentions that there is a “team” being assembled. Also, the Hulk is essential to the creation of The Avengers. In the first Avengers comic, Loki, the Norse god of mischief, tricked the Hulk into destroying a railroad track. After a brief altercation, Iron Man, the Hulk, Ant Man, and Thor, banded together to create the Avengers. But because of the fight the Hulk had with his soon to be allies, some have suggested that the Hulk be a bad guy in the Avengers movie. Perhaps, he can show up in this movie and create some problems Iron Man can’t fix alone?

Who else do we think will make a cameo appearance? Keep reading to find out!

Oh brother. His name doesn’t strike fear or any sort of heroic undertones. Even his powers, the ability to control ants with his helmet and alter his size, really don’t do much for me either. But he needs to be there in order for the whole Avengers story arc to work. Although three different people have taken up the name of Ant-Man, I think they should focus on the original, Henry Pym. Hank is a biochemist that pretty much invents his powers. So pretty much, without him, there would be no Ant-Man. Also, he was one of the original Avengers. Perhaps in this movie, Tony Stark can contact Dr. Pym, before he become Ant-Man, and ask him about injuries he suffered with his heart and how he can fix it without the use of the mini-arc reactor on his chest. Or perhaps he can be employed with S.H.I.E.L.D. working on something top secret.

Captain America

Ah, good ‘ol Cap. I mean, what more can you ask for? I mean, come on, he fought Hitler!! Whatta guy. Now obviously, you can’t have the Avengers without Captain America. Although he wasn’t an original member, he has become synonymous with that group of superheroes. Also, him and Iron Man are the two most famous of that team. We also saw Cap’s shield in the first Iron Man movie. We also saw Cap in a block of ice in a deleted scene from The Incredible Hulk. So maybe he’ll make another appearance in the third Marvel movie to be released? But considering Chris Evans just got the job to play Captain America, is it too early to debut him in the red, white, and blue?

In my opinion, this is going to be who shows up in the movie. Aside from being an original member of the Avengers, logically Thor will be introduced in this film. Thor will be opening next year in May, which means they’ve already started shooting the film. A picture of Chris Hemsworth as Thor has also recently popped up. And finally, some nerd thought he saw Thor, or at least his human version, Donald Blake, in the Iron Man 2 trailer.  So, wouldn’t you think they’re gearing up to debut him in this movie in a blaze of glory? The only problem is, tying in mythology with Iron Man.

Which leads me to…

The Mandarian

They can go the complete opposite route and introduce a new villain instead of a new hero. For those that have no idea who this guy is, he is pretty much the main bad guy in the Iron Man universe. The Mandarian is pretty much a Chinese guy with powers that he gets from his Ten Rings of Power. In the first Iron Man, Tony Stark is kidnapped by a terrorist group called “The Ten Rings”. DUN DUN DUUUN. The main terrorist guy, Razza, was also wearing a ring… Also, it’s been rumored that Shaun Toub, who played Dr. Yinsen in Iron Man, will be playing The Mandarian. How they’re going to pull that off? I have no idea. So will the Mandarian be making a cameo appearance in this Iron Man movie? If he does appear, let’s hope they do it right. The Mandarian has “powers,” so introducing powers in a real life movie without making it look cheesy is a difficult task.

So I guess the only way to find out who it’ll be is to go see Iron Man 2 this Friday, May 7.
