James Cameron’s Avatar Tops the Box Office

21 Dec

Well it’s official. Avatar has made some money finally. It finished in first place in the box office – bringing in $73 million ($3.5 million at midnight premieres). $73 million might not seem like a lot of money considering it cost over $400 million to make and market – but consider that the movie made another $159.1 million at the foreign box office, which brings it’s haul for the weekend to $232 million worldwide. That’s not a bad opening weekend.

Now I had promised an Avatar review this weekend, because I had bought my IMAX 3D tickets on Saturday. Well a little snow storm came in and blanketed the whole DC area – so the theater was closed on Saturday (the day of my tickets). No problem – I’ll just go on Sunday, there are two available shows. Call Sunday to AMC Hoffman in Alexandria (the closest IMAX theater showing it) – no answer. So around 2pm, I call again (with a show at 3:15) – they answer AND they’re open! But all shows are sold out. So needless to say, it has been out since Friday and I have still not seen it. So I sit here today at work, reading reviews of the film…wondering what could have been. I seriously don’t know when I can see it. And now NASA says that the moon Pandora could be a real place?!

Well that would be very kind of you! We’ll see – Ryan is very adamant about going no where near the theater!
