Best Waves and Wipeouts from Eddie Aikau Competition

10 Dec

Every year, in Hawaiian legend Eddie Aikau’s honor (who invented big wave surfing), the surfwear company Quiksilver sponsors the “The Eddie”—the Quiksilver Big Wave Invitational in Memory of Eddie Aikau at Waimea Bay. The tournament has only been held eight times, due to a precondition that open-ocean swells reach a minimum of 20 feet (this translates to a wave face height of over 30 feet). Some of these wipeouts are painful to watch – but I would love to be in some of those barrels.

Vodpod videos no longer available.
